Spaceball Sr. and I popped in to a vintage aircraft display at Paine Field. Here's some tots.
One of three P-51's there. Love the Malcom hood on this one.
Hadn't seen this K model before. I think it's an ex racer. It's undergoing a restore.
One of three flying Tigercats.
Late model P-51 from the Icelandic Air Guard. Restored to its original livery.
I think this was a D model Corsair. The cowl is throwing me off and wiki is being no help.
he he zip ties.
XF8-U. Former NASA atmospheric testing bed. They towed it over as it is not presently airworthy.
Lots of Texans, some Chinese Yaks and some Navion down from Canada.
TA-4J owned by Pacific Aero Ventures. Or in other words some rich guys weekend ride. He's got a handful of toys.
Love the D-Day stripes on the B-25
Go home Camaro you're drunk.
Super Gee Bee Q.E.D. II
Spitfire. SOOO BRITISH!

It can go from sea level to 11,000 ft in 91 seconds. Straight up. Think about that.

Nice pics! There's a Tigercat where I live as well. Restored by a guy who also runs the National Museum for WWII Aviation. Apparently she really knows how to haul ass.

There was a picture displayed of the remaining three flying in formation. I think the one up by me is the only flying two seater. They sound amazing!

Nice!
I have to share... the show I went to had much more than just the tigercat. Here's one of the handful of real flying Zeros. It did a dogfight with the P-40 next to it. It was difficult to hide...my excitement...

Nice P-40 and hot damn not many zekes left. Is this the outfit from Texas?

Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing. Mustang and Corsair!!!
Would it be sacrilegious to convert the P51 into a modern turboprop?
![]() 08/31/2014 at 19:27 |
|
Yes. Yes it would.

Honestly I don't know where they were from. Could be Texas. This show was in Colorado Springs. As a P-40 fan this was easily the best airshow I have been to.

That is bad ass.

Ok last one. Not many people have the balls to do a low-pass in a B-25.

That is low! I've seen that aircraft before on the air show circuit.

Okay, I started out insanely jealous, then I saw this:
That is one of only TWO remaining(out of 10 built) Goodyear-built F2G Super Corsairs !
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous planes you saw there.

Thank you. I had been up and down wiki and some other sites trying to find which model it was. It was gorgeous. I'm not sure it's running at the moment.

Piper (via Cavalier Aircraft) tried that in the late Sixties as the PA-48 Enforcer. They were trying to get in on the USAF's PAVE COIN program, but they went with the Fairchild AU-23A instead.

I've always had a small love for the Bearcat.

One of the deadliest aircraft ever made.

Not sure about the II though. This thing was massive compared to the Gee Bee. Seats two and was mostly plywood and aluminum.

Yak-18T. My uncle has one and it is based not far from there. Aerobatic and you can take the family.

This one is owned by the son of air show performer Bud Granley. I've seen him toss this thing around like was a Pitt.

I just realized. Bud used to fly F86.

Nice! It's called "In the mood" and is part-owned by the guy who runs the museum/restoration place here.

Here's the other Tigercat - all three in the same post! This was at Wings Over Houston 2012.

The B-25 flew over my airstrip on the Olympic Peninsula twice today. So. Many. Goosebumps.
